Image - regional map with the area covered highlighted Three Loops Through the Pisgah Forest

These are the best loop roads connecting to the Blue Ridge Parkway. They build on one another so you can choose to ride for a few hours or make it a full day day side trip. Don't plan a ride on the Parkway without including these great scenic roads!

11 x 17 inches. Full color. Printed on durable high quality coated paper. Heavy duty waterproof version available. Routes are indicated in red with large easy to read road labels.

3 routes which build on one another let you choose the time / length for your rides. The majority of these routes lie within the Pisgah National Forest. They encounter the Blue Ridge Parkway at two different locations. Enjoy long range views, roadside waterfalls, winding roads along mountain rivers on some of the most scenic rides in western North and South Carolina. Include a stop in Waynesville, North Carolina, a picturesque and historic mountain town or an extended ride across the border into South Carolina. Choose your course based on time and comfort. Whether you want a shorter afternoon ride or an all day tour these loops will satisfy.

Much of the riding is through the wilds of the Pisgah National Forest. The routes can include one of the most scenic and popular sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoy the contrast of rugged mountain passes and rural valley farms with numerous wild creeks and branches as you roll through the always spectacular countryside. Image - regional map with the area covered highlighted Three Loops Around Hot Springs

Hot Springs, NC, lies between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway, northwest of Asheville, NC near the NC/TN border. Over 200 miles and hours of riding fun on two lane backroads including the most scenic approach.

11 x 17 inches. Full color. Printed on durable high quality coated paper. Heavy duty waterproof version available. Routes are indicated in red with large easy to read road labels.

The small town of Hot Springs lies cradled within the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee in the French Broad River valley. The hot springs that give the town its name still provide bathers with a rare opportunity to soak in natural warm pools though the glorious bath house of the past exists only as ruins. Over 200 miles of roads are described which weave through the surrounding country offering both spectacular scenery and challenging drives.

We've selected 3 loops which course through the mountains surrounding Hot Springs, North Carolina. Enjoy beautiful mountain and river views, discover historic towns, and challenge yourself to some of the twistiest roads to be found anywhere. Centered on the town, the map also includes the best approach from Lake Junaluska, NC, on one of the most scenic and enjoyable rides over the mountains and through the woods and valleys. Old barns, homestead cabins, mountain farms, and pastoral creeks line the roadways with significant portions through National Forest lands in North Carolina and Tennessee.

The tiny town of Hot Springs swells with motorcyclists on the weekend all here to enjoy the fantastic riding laid out on this map. I've even thrown in a few roads many locals have yet to discover.

The Best Rides in the North Georgia Mountains

The mountains of north Georgia are full of great roads for motorcycling, some well known, others largely undiscovered. This map highlights not only the best of the best, but also describes good roads to help you connect them all into wonderful loop rides or pass through the region experiencing the best routes on your travels.

11 x 17 inches. Full color. Printed on durable high quality coated paper. Heavy duty waterproof version available. Routes are indicated in red with large easy to read road labels. Good connecting routes are identified in blue. Points of interest, gas stations, arrows showing turns onto new roads, and all major parks included. Route descriptions on the back of the map include time and distance to ride each route, a brief description of what to expect, directions on where to turn, and what to watch for when needed, as well as comments about the road and surroundings.

This map covers all the roads west of US 441, and all the roads east of US 515, the heart of the mountainous area in the Peach State. It reaches as far south as Dahlonega, and includes portions across the border in North Carolina. More than 25 routes are described some of which consist of several roads. The best routes are highlighted in red and though no specific loop rides are identified, many of these roads intersect and the options to make loops are many and easy to identify. New for this map, I've included good connector roads which are highlighted in blue. These roads almost made the best of the best grade, but either lacked the scenery of the best rides or the challenging and fun curves and turns of a great road. These are roads I recommend over more traveled main arteries, good options when weekend or holiday traffic clogs the main roads, and great ways to link together the best roads and make short cuts between them, detour around towns, and avoid traffic. Also new on this map are directional arrows to indicate which way to turn when switching to a new road on a described route. It is truly the most comprehensive and detailed compilation of motorcycle routes in North Georgia.

The roads are bold and the road numbers and names large so they can be easily read at a glance and useful when navigating from a tank bag map pocket.

Photo of motorcyclist using America Rides Maps to navigate through a beautiful mountain setting - Lake Logan, NC, in the background. The maps titled "3 Loops Through the Pisgah Forest", and "over the mountains and Through the Woods will lead you to this spot.

I love showing my maps around to the grizzled old bikers who live here. "Man, I've been riding these roads for years", it typically starts out. They unfold the map and there's a casual glance at it. "Yeah, I know all these", is the next comment. Then, it gets quiet. Their eyes scan the page. They focus in and I wait to hear the words that follow; "I've never gone this way, we always go through town" or "It's been a long time since we took that road", but most commonly it's "I've been riding here all my life and I've never been on this road, what's it like?" Most try to memorize a few new routes, but the reality is they won't remember them without a map. MY MAPS REVEAL ROADS MANY LOCALS DON'T KNOW! PURCHASE YOUR MAPS NOW

Photo - The highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway , one of the sights you might find on our mapsI've read one in four vehicles passing through our area on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a motorcycle. At peak times, my observation is closer to one in two. Riding to the south end of the Parkway at Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a common goal for many motorcyclists. Others are drawn to the region to take the challenge of riding the famous "Tail of the Dragon" at Deals Gap. These two roads with their wonderful views, fabulous scenery, and challenging curves, are legendary, drawing riders by the thousands. Image - Map cover - Three Loops Through The Pisgah Forest - Click on image to get more infoThere are lots of motorcycle rallies in and around Western North Carolina every year - Maggie Valley, Fontana, Cherokee, Hot Springs, Asheville, plus poker runs, benefit rides, club rides, I meet a lot of riders. My favorite question is, "Where have you been riding?" Most commonly it's been up on the Blue Ridge Parkway or over to Deals Gap. "Have you been to Hot Springs?" How about Pisgah Forest? North of Asheville? Why ride back on the Parkway when you can come this way? I'm glad to offer alternatives and directions, though oftimes when I meet folks again I hear "We tried to go where you told us, but we must have missed a turn" or "We decided to pick our own route. The road ended miles back in the woods, so we came back to the motel for the rest of the afternoon" or "We weren't sure we were on the right road so we turned back". There are some fantastic rides around here, but let's face it - IF YOU WANT TO RIDE THE BEST, YOU NEED A MAP!

NEXT MAP - The Mountain Roads at the
Virginia / North Carolina Border
Anticipated release August '08

Update - 8/28/08 - The new map has just come off the printer and I'm both excited and a little despondent. I'd hoped this would be the last of the North Carolina based maps, but I've found so many good rides at the NC / TN / VA triangle I had to break it up into two maps. I just can't leave out some of the great rides I've found in the area and there are too many to put on one map and still give you the quality and ease of use you deserve. It needs a few more tweaks and the mileage and descriptions detailed. This has delayed the release a bit, but I'm committed to having it done by the end of August. I've already logged a couple thousand miles in the area and it looks like one more 500 mile ride should wrap things up. Weather permitting, (I've put in a lot of rainy miles recently), a new set of tires, and you'll have a new map available shortly. The sequel will have to wait until I return from mapping Sturgis in South Dakota. Nobody gives you the detail found in America Rides Maps and I will not sacrifice the quality. Thanks for your patience - Wayne
